Dinner Planner

Ask your assistant what's for dinner.

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant to Dinner Planner, and ask it in your own words. It reads your menu, keeps your shopping list and plans next week, inside your kitchen's rules.

Assistant tools are included with your household’s Dinner Planner Pro subscription.

You: What's for dinner tonight?

Assistant: Chicken tikka masala with rice. It takes 35 minutes and serves the four of you.

You: Add oat milk and coffee to the shopping list.

Assistant: Done. Both are on your list, which has 28 things now.

You: Plan three dinners for next week. Quick ones.

Assistant: Here's "Quick favourites": pesto fusilli, a salmon poke bowl and a tofu stir-fry. All without peanuts, as your kitchen says.

What you can ask

Tonight

  • "What's for dinner?"
  • "Read me the recipe, one step at a time."
  • "We've eaten. What's tomorrow?"

Shopping

  • "What do we still need to buy?"
  • "Add oat milk and coffee to the list."
  • "I got the chicken. Tick it off."

Planning

  • "Plan five dinners for next week."
  • "Swap the tacos for something quicker."
  • "Make the lasagne vegetarian."

Every answer links back: a recipe, cooking mode, the menu or the shopping list opens in the app at the right place. Making new menus and recipes, swapping dinners and changing recipes use the same allowance as in the app. With Pro they don't run out. See what's free

Connect in three steps.

Use the same Dinner Planner account as in the app. Your household needs active Pro access to use assistant tools. No password is ever given to the assistant.

The address

The menus are named as each assistant had them when this was written, and they move. If yours looks different, look for "connectors" and paste the same address.

What it can see, and what it can't.

An assistant gets the household you pick when you connect it, and nothing else of yours.

It can see
Your menus, recipes and shopping lists, and your kitchen's rules: how many you are, allergies, diet, dislikes, equipment and the country you shop in.
It cannot see
Your email address or password, your subscription or payments, who else is in the household, or any other household.
You choose what it may do
Reading is always included. Changing the shopping list and menus, and making new menus and recipes, are two separate ticks when you connect.
Your rules still apply
Allergies and diet are checked by Dinner Planner for everything an assistant asks for, exactly as in the app. An assistant cannot switch them off.
Everything shows up in the app
Each thing an assistant does is listed under Profile, AI assistants, Activity, for everyone in the household.
You can remove it at once
Connected assistants are listed in the app with when they were last used. Remove one and its next request is refused.

For developers

The dinner planner your assistant can use.

Dinner Planner is a remote MCP server with OAuth. Any client that speaks the Model Context Protocol over HTTP can use it.

Endpoint
https://dinnerplanner.ai/mcp, streamable HTTP, stateless. POST only.
Authorization
OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256) and state. Metadata at https://dinnerplanner.ai/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server and /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource.
Clients
Client ID metadata documents and dynamic client registration. Redirect addresses are matched exactly: https, or http on a loopback host.
Tokens
Access tokens last one hour. Refresh tokens rotate and last 90 days from their last use.
Limits
Requests are limited per connection and per household, and answer 429 with Retry-After. Making menus and recipes uses the household's own allowance.
Results
A sentence to relay, then the same facts as structured content. Every menu, recipe and list carries its id and a link that opens it in the app.
